REFUSIUM! is a rhetorical technology for refusing certain faculties of the senses. The word “refusium” sticks together refusal and sensorium to emphasize the rhetorical decisions involved in sensing, feeling, and knowing, especially as these three interventions involve listening. Therefore, this tool functions to deny the sensory experiences afforded by sound by converting mp3 waveforms to binary data (zeros and ones).

To use REFUSIUM!, begin by choosing an mp3 file with the left button. Then, click the “REFUSIUM!” button-- yes, you did click it; it will take a few seconds or longer to load, depending on the length of your file. Finally, your mp3 file will be converted into binary!

A few notes: The output data has been limited to 10,000 points. ChatGPT was used to write the script for REFUSIUM!. Mp3 files of a shorter length are recommended (under five minutes is preferred). Neither your mp3 file data nor binary will be stored or shared.
